Congratulations to Christoph Stockinger, Gandolf Feigl, and Samuel Hörmann for winning the Photonics and DeepTech Challenge Best Idea Awards.

PhD students Christoph Stockinger (Banzer group, University of Graz), Gandolf Feigl, and Samuel Hörmann (both from the EMS Institute, TU Graz) won the Best Idea Awards at the DEEP SUPPORT Idea Challenge, an European initiative that fosters innovation in photonics and deep-tech.

Christoph’s project “Detecting Light Using Passive Waveguide Architectures” and the TU Graz team’s project “Polarimetric Waveguide Interferometer for Biosensing” were recognized for their innovative approaches in photonics. Christoph, Gandolf, and Samuel are contributors to the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Structured Matter Based Sensing (CDL-SMBS), a joint research initiative between the University of Graz and the Graz University of Technology as well industry partners, focusing on the development of advanced sensor technology (headed by Peter Banzer and Alexander Bergmann). 

As part of the award ceremony, the awardees presented their projects at the DEEP SUPPORT event in Budapest, where they also took part in discussions on advancing photonics innovation and strengthening European collaborations.

On October 13 and 14, the consortium NanoGraz of the Research Career Campus at the University of Graz organized a two-day event to inform the consortium's doctoral students about their career options after completing their doctorate. University Graz researchers (Banzer group) present a novel and highly precise method for measuring the elusive and intricate features of light’s electric and magnetic fields at nanoscale dimensions.
